The Drexel Dragons open their season with a tall order in the Colorado Buffaloes on the road.
The Drexel Dragons finished 8-8 in the Colonial a season ago and by most accounts this team has been thrown somewhere in the middle of a ten team conference. I believe this was one of the top teams in the CAA if not for injuries. The past two seasons have seen key contributors go down so question number one is can this team remain healthy. The guy that must return from injury and play at a high level is guard Damion Lee who was lost for a good portion of last year after averaging more then 17 points in 2012-13. Tavon Allen contributed almost 12 points as a bench player and will expected to produce more as his role expands. HC Bruiser Flint's challenge will be finding enough players to support his two proven commodities especially in the frontcourt.

Colorado is billed as one of the top teams in the PAC 12 and one of the few that has the opportunity to unseat Arizona although I'd have to see that to believe it. The Buffaloes were a solid squad a season ago despite losing 15 point scorer Spenced Dinwiddie to a knee injury half way in to the 2013-14 campaign. With Dinwiddie off to the pros the Buffs nucleus of Josh Scott, Askia Booker and Xavier Johnson will give the offense plenty of punch with nearly 40 points a year ago which obviously has the potential to increase especially if Booker can improve his shooting touch to 40%+. Johnson and Scott also provided muscle on the backboards with over 14 pulls so if Tad Boyle can get respectable numbers from the remainder of the lineup the Buffaloes will be in the Big Dance once again as they ride another 20+ win season.
Drexel certainly doesn't have the athletes that Colorado does which means the Buffaloes have far more scoring potential. It also means that Drexel can't get in to a run and gun battle or their chances to win greatly diminish. The key to the Dragons staying close to Colorado is to make every possession count and protect the ball while eating a lot of clock. I don't see an upset here and plenty of things have to go in favor of the Dragons but as a fan I'll take the points and hope for the best which probably is a cover...
