The Oregon State Beavers and the Rice Owls face off on Friday as they begin the 2014-2015 Men’s college basketball season schedule.
The Oregon State Beavers are picked dead last in the Pac-12 and to make matters worse they lost by 10 points in heir exhibition matchup to Western Oregon scoring just 47 points. Langston Morris-Walker is OSU’s leading returning scorer but he averaged just four points last season. Olaf Schaftenaar is a 6’10” forward but he don’t seem strong enough to make the big contributions needed inside. Malcolm Duvivier appears to have some upside potential but e has lacked any kind of consistency. Gary Payton II scored 10 points in the exhibition disaster. To make matters worse the Beavers just aren’t a whole lot better on the defensive end and this looks like in might be a very long year in Corvallis.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rice Owls may not be a top team and don’t really have any of the top players in Conference USA but they at least fared beer than the Beavers in their exhibition game pasting LeTourneau. Marcus Jackson was Rice’s leading scorer in the exhibition with 19 points including three three-pointers. Seth Gearhart did the job inside with eight rebounds and five blocks to go with his 12 points. Andrew Drone was 5 of 7 shooting scoring 12 points despite playing just 19 minutes and Max Guercy added 12 points. Rice went 23 of 28 from the free throw line and hit nine three-pointers in all. Rice might surprise a few people this year as they look to have some decent talent and depth.
Oregon State is 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games and 4-0 against the spread against CUSA. Rice is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 road games, 6-13 against the spread in their last 19 games overall, and 1-5 against the spread against the Pac-12.
I am exepcting a low scoring game so m free pick is the under.
