The Montana Grizzlies and Colorado State Rams play Saturday night at the Moby Arena.
The Montana Grizzlies are usually one of the better teams in the Big Sky but will now find out what life is like without head coach Wayne Tinkle and star player Kareem Jamar. The good thing for Montana is that this is still an experienced team with a few talented players such as Jordan Gregory and Michael Weisner. Gregory has improved his game each season and averaged 13.8 points per game last year, while Weisner can stretch the floor and should have no problem being that second scorer for the Grizzlies. Montana will also get a boost from big man and former Washington player Martin Breunig. Overall, the Montana Grizzlies are still a talented team and will compete in the Big Sky, but they have to get adjusted to a new head coach and a few new guys stepping up.

The Colorado State Rams feel like they’re ready to take that next step in the competitive MWC with an experienced team returning. The Rams will once again be led by J.J. Avila, the do-it-all forward who is arguably the top player in the entire conference. Daniel Bejarano is another explosive senior who is hungry for success, as he averaged 16.3 points and 8.3 rebounds, giving the Rams a powerful 1-2 punch who can carry this team a long way. The Colorado State Rams will also get a major boost from transfer Stanton Kidd, a forward who posted four double doubles for North Carolina Central. Simply put: Don’t sleep on the Colorado State Rams, as this is a team that could win the conference and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament if everything goes right.
The Grizzlies are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Mountain West and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games. The Rams are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 home games and 9-25-1 ATS in their last 35 games overall. The Grizzlies are 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
If you couldn't tell, I'm really high on the Colorado State Rams this season. While it's the first game of the season and teams are sure to come out a little rusty, the Rams have by far the more talented team here and should win easily. Give me the Rams and the chalk.
