The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Oral Roberts Golden Eagles begin their season Saturday at the Mabee Center.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane had one of their better season’s in recent memory with a 21-win season and return much of their key guys. James Woodard is back after leading Tulsa with 15.5 points and shooting a sweet 38.7 percent from downtown. Rashad Smith was the other Tulsa player to average double digits, and he’s always been a quality shooter who hits more than 50 percent of his shots. Shaquille Harrison is also due for a big season after improving each of his first two years and should have little trouble averaging double figures. With their top three players returning, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane could be a force this season in the AAC. Tulsa just needs to improve its 32.7 percent shooting from deep and poor 67.6 percent shooting from the free throw line, two areas that hurt them last season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles have rejoined the Summit and have a team that should have them competing right away. It’s always tough losing the top player in Shawn Glover, but a combination of Obi Emegano and Korey Billbury is good enough to replace his efforts. Emegano and Billbury combined for more than 30 points per game and 10 rebounds, all while shooting high percentages from the field. Oral Roberts was one of the better offensive teams in the country last season, shooting 46 percent and with those two guys that shouldn’t change much. I look for a big season from Brandon Conley, who has been solid for the Golden Eagles the last two years in limited time. Overall, the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles have what it takes to make a run for a conference title and win a lot of games this season.
The Golden Hurricane are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 road games and 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The Golden Eagles are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games.
This is going to be a good early matchup between two teams that think they can do something this season. And with that being said, I'm going to take the points here. This is really a toss up game that will likely come down to the wire. The points will come in handy here.
