The Fordham Rams and Penn State Nittany Lions play Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Fordham Rams won their opener Friday against the NY Institute of Technology Bears, 94-77. While a win is a good thing for a Fordham team that finished 2-14 in conference play last season, a lot of the same issues are there for the Rams. Fordham plays little to no defense, as it allowed the Bears to shoot 50.9 percent from the field and 48 percent from deep. Fordham was one of the worst defensive teams in the league last season and if Friday’s game is any sign of things to come, nothing’s changed. The good news for Fordham is that Eric Paschall scored 31 points in 30 minutes and Ryan Rhoomes posted a double-double. Fordham wasn’t a great offensive team last year either, so the 45.9 percent shooting is somewhat surprising. Jon Severe is expected to return after serving his suspension.

The Penn State Nittany Lions won their season opener over the Morgan State Bears, 61-48. Penn State won on the defensive side of the ball by holding Morgan State to 31 percent shooting from the field and just 23 points in the second half. With the lack of explosive offensive weapons, the Nittany Lions will have to keep winning with ugly ball all season long. D.J. Newbill led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Shep Garner dropped 14 points on 6-9 shooting. A positive sign for Penn State is that Geno Thorpe scored 11 points and had two steals in 19 minutes off the bench. Penn State is not a deep team and won’t win many games with 18 turnovers. Expect to see the Penn State Nittany Lions play a cleaner game offensively in this matchup.
The Rams are 2-10-1 ATS in their last 13 road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Nittany Lions are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Fordham plays absolutely no defense and that's what Penn State thrives at. While the Nittany Lions play an ugly style of ball, the lack of defense makes the Rams impossible to back. Take the Nittany Lions and the chalk.
