The IUPUI Jaguars and Purdue Boilermakers square off Sunday afternoon at the Mackey Arena.
The IUPUI Jaguars lost their first game of the season in an overtime loss to the Indiana State Sycamores. While a heartbreaking loss, IUPUI did hold a talented Indiana State team to 25 percent shooting from deep and competed on the glass by grabbing 38 rebounds. The issue for the Jaguars is that they shot only 35 percent from the field and turned the ball over 16 times. Marcellus Barksdale and Mason Archie II were the only players to score in the double figures, while DavRon Williams grabbed 11 rebounds in 27 minutes. If IUPUI can match that effort defensively and get a spark offensively, this could be a better season than expected. Regardless, the IUPUI Jaguars held their own against a solid team, especially considering this was supposed to be the worst team in the Summit.

The Purdue Boilermakers dominated their first game of the season against the Samford Bulldogs, 80-40. It was probably the most complete performance Purdue fans have seen in an entire year, as it held Samford to 22.7 percent shooting, while shooting 55.3 percent from the field themselves. Vince Edwards, Rapheal Davis and Kendall Stephens were the three starters to score in double figures, while Isaac Haas had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. What was most impressive about the win is that Purdue’s best player in A.J. Hammons didn’t have to do much, as he played just 18 minutes, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds. It’s just one game, but the Purdue Boilermakers will take it after last year’s massive disappointment.
The Jaguars are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 14-42 ATS in their last 56 games overall. The Boilermakers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
While te Purdue Boilermakers are the clear better team, the IUPUI Jaguars just went toe-to-toe with a decent Indiana State team and could easily have won. If IUPUI shows up with that same effort, it should have no problem covering this large number. This line is a little crazy considering the way both teams played in their opener.
