The Florida Gators ad the Miami Hurricanes face off on Monday in Gainesville in an in state college basketball matchup.
The expectations are sky high for the Florida Gators this season as they are ranked seventh in the nation to start the year. Florida opened their season on Friday against William and Mary and they didn’t disappoint getting out to a 42-18 halftime lead before winning the game by 23. The Gators have a little bit of a different look this season but they also have some familiar names as Dorian Finney Smith led UF with 15 points and four rebounds in the win. Michael Frazier II had 14 points and five rebounds and Jon Horford had 11 points and five rebounds playing a team high 30 minutes. Florida shot 47.2 percent while holding W&M to 31.6 percent shooting and the Gators also converted 80 percent of their free throws. Florida looks to be well rounded once again and are going to be tough to beat this season.

The Miami Hurricanes took a step back last season after losing most of their talent from a team that won the ACC two years back. Miami looks to get back to national relevance this season and they got started the right way blowing out Howard in their first game. Sheldon McClellan led the way for the Canes in the win scoring 19 points and grabbing four rebounds. Angel Rodriguez is the floor general for Miami and he has 16 points, three assists, and four steal against Howard while Manu Lecomte scored 14 points. Miami shot 45.8 percent from the floor including 39.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc as well as hitting 84 percent from the free throw line. Despite the personnel losses last season Miami wasn’t a pushover and they appear to be improved this year.
Florida is 8-1 against the spread against the ACC, 5-2 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 3-8 against the spread following a win by 20 or more points. Miami is 11-5 against the spread against the ACC, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 0-3-1 against the spread following a win.
Florida is talented but this looks like too many point and my play in this one is Miami with the points.
