The Georgia State Panthers and Iowa State Cyclones play Monday night at the Hilton Coliseum.
The Georgia State Panthers beat up the Tennessee Temple Crusaders in their opening game, 115-55. Georgia State shot a ridiculous 62.5 percent from the field, knocked down 13 threes and scored 50-plus points in both halves. Defensively, Georgia State allowed 36.4 percent shooting and forced 25 turnovers. Ryan Harrow had 25 points and six assists, while R.J. Hunter had 24 points and eight assists. Louisville transfer Kevin Ware was 4-7 from the field with six rebounds and five assists in just his 10th game in two years. The Georgia State Panthers are the clear favorite to win the Sun Belt and could make even more noise by winning a big game in this matchup. This is a measuring stick game for Georgia State and so far is the Panthers only ranked opponent all season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Iowa State Cyclones beat the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in their first game of the season, 93-82. Iowa State’s offense didn’t miss a beat with 51.7 percent shooting and only eight turnovers, while the defense held the Golden Grizzlies to 51.8 percent shooting and forced 13 turnovers. Georges Niang led the way with 30 points and Bryce Dejean-Jones had 20 points and 11 rebounds in his first game since transferring from UNLV. Dustin Hogue had 15 points and four rebounds. The concern for Iowa State has to be the lack of depth, as the Cyclones scored just four points and had four turnovers. The Iowa State Cyclones are one of many teams that can make a deep run in a loaded Big 12 and are going to be tough to beat with an offense that can go toe-to-toe with anybody.
The Panthers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Cyclones are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The Georgia State Panthers may be one of the more underrated teams in the entire country. I’m taking the points here all day long.
