The Jacksonville State Gamecocks and Louisville Cardinals play Monday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks lost their season opener to the Marshall Thundering Herd, 74-55. Jacksonville State’s weakness last season was its offense and that seems to still be an issue after shooting just 37 percent in the loss. Avery Moore was the Gamecocks leading scorer with 18 points off the bench and JaQuail Townser was the only other double-digit scorer with 11 points in 29 minutes. Jacksonville State has to get more touches for Jamal Hunter, who had just two shots in the loss, but is a senior center who shot over 60 percent last season. Defensively, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks allowed 50 percent shooting and forced 10 turnovers. Until Jacksonville State can put the ball in the hoop with any type of consistency, the Gamecocks are going to be a below average Ohio Valley team.

The Louisville Cardinals had an impressive 81-68 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in their season opener. Louisville allowed 40 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers, while the offense shot 46 percent from the field and got to the line 42 times. Montrezl Harrell proved he’s pretty much going to be unstoppable, as he racked up 30 points and seven rebounds in the win. Terry Rozier did a little bit of everything for the Cardinals, scoring 18 points, and producing four assists and six rebounds. The Louisville Cardinals are pretty much going to be what everybody expected, a highly efficient team offensively that draws a lot of fouls and a defensive team that puts ton of pressure on the ball. As long as everybody stays healthy, Louisville is a threat to win the ACC and even national title.
The Gamecocks are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Cardinals are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games.
I hate laying these type of numbers, especially early in the season. However, Jacksonville State is extremely outmatched in this game and would be lucky to score 45 points as long as the Cardinals defense shows up. This one is likely going to get ugly, which is why you should take the Cards and the chalk if you're looking at this game.
