The Line: UNC Greensboro Spartans -2 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Instate rivals the UNC Wilmington Seahawks and the UNC Greensboro Spartans square off on Tuesday.
The North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks wanted to get off to a positive start in 2014 but it was only positive for Old Dominion who dominated the second half in a 76-56 victory. The Seahawks led by four after 20 minutes but were outscored 48-24 after the break. UNCW simply couldn't find the shooting touch at only 32% while the Monarchs connected at a not too shabby 47% which resulted in eight more field goals. Addison Spruill led the Seahawks offense with 15 points and five pulls on 5-9 shooting with Craig Ponder right on his heels with 14 points. Dylan Starwood and Freddie Jackson followed with 12 and eleven points respectively but the team received just four points from the rest of the lineup.
USA TODAY Sports
The North Carolina Spartans are hoping for big things this season and the year started off with a bang in a 76-62 rout of Chowan. The Spartans led by 19 after 20 minutes and cruised to an easy win as they turned 18 turnovers in to seven more shots while owning 28-18 advantage at the charity stripe to win going away. The Hawks had no answer for the tandem of Tevon Saddler and RJ White who combined for 41 points with White hauling in a game high nine rebounds. Clay Byrd and Nicholas Paulos added 15 points as the Spartans played nine and each found the scoring column with Chowan missing out on opportunities to make this a closer contest.
The under is 8-3 in UNCW last 11 overall but there aren't many trends to look at with these instate rivals facing each other three times. Neither team figures to be a factor in their respective confferences. The real issue is most contributors have departed and I see Greensboro has a pair of double dgit scorers back and Wilmington just one so I'm going with the Spartans because that's all I have right now...
