The Oklahoma Sooners and Creighton Bluejays play Wednesday at the CenturyLink Center Omaha.
The Oklahoma Sooners beat the SE Louisiana Lions in their season opener, 78-53. The Sooners shot 38.7 percent from the field and grabbed 49 rebounds, while their defense held the Lions to 32.8 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers. Buddy Hield led Oklahoma with 25 points, and Ryan Spangler and Isaiah Cousins combined for 25 points and 21 rebounds. Dinjiyl Walker scored eight points off the bench and Jordan Woodard had seven assists to make up for his 1-6 shooting from the field. You can expect the Oklahoma Sooners to break out of their offensive slump rather quickly, as it’s the main reason many are high on them this season in the Big 12. The Sooners attempt a lot of threes and can fill it up with the best of them when they’re hot. Consider the opening game somewhat of a fluke.
USA TODAY Sports
The Creighton Bluejays are 2-0 with wins over Central Arkansas and Chicago State. On the season, Creighton is averaging 94 points on 46.9 percent shooting and are allowing 71.5 points on 45.9 percent shooting. Who needs Doug McDermott when you can shoot like that? Will Artino leads the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Isaiah Zierden is averaging 17 points on 60 percent shooting. Devin Brooks is averaging eight rebounds and 5.5 assists, and freshman Toby Hegner is 3-9 from downtown. Even without one the top players in college basketball from last season on the team, Creighton has shown to still have that offensive explosiveness. However, in order to beat some of the big boys in the game, Austin Chatman will have to step up. Chatman is just 5-12 from the field in the first two games.
The Sooners are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Bluejays are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big 12.
The Oklahoma Sooners are one of those teams that can keep up with Creighton offensively and I trust their expeirence over a Bluejays team that's still trying to learn to play without McDermott.
