The Siena Saints and St. Bonaventure Bonnies play Wednesday night at the Reilly Center.
The Siena Saints are off to a quick 0-2 start with losses to Massachusetts and Vermont. On the season, Siena is averaging 81.5 points on 43.3 percent shooting and are allowing 89.5 points on 54.8 percent shooting. Rob Poole leads Siena with 20.5 points on 44.4 percent shooting and Ryan Oliver is the other player who is averaging double-digit points. Lavon Long is chipping in 9.5 points and five rebounds, while Evan Hymes is 2-5 from three-point land. The Siena Saints have shown that they can put the ball in the basket, it’s the defense that must improve if they’re going to live up to expectations this season. Siena is a team that many thought could compete for a MAAC title. This game will give us a better idea of where Siena is at. Maurice White, who has already missed a game, is questionable with an illness.
USA TODAY Sports
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies won their season opener against the Dartmouth Big Green, 77-57. St. Bonaventure shot 40.6 percent from the field and had 15 assists on 26 made baskets, while the defense held the Big Green to 35.8 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers. Marcus Posley and Jaylen Adams combined for 32 points, while Dion Wright had 14 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Adams scored 11 points off the bench and Andell Cumberbatch had the games only double-double. The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are a team that will be looking up in a tough Atlantic 10 conference but has a few key guys who could help this team overachieve. Youssou Ndoye, the Bonnies starting center, is expected to play in this game after serving his suspension.
The Saints are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Bonnies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. The Saints are 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings, while the underdog is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
If the Siena Saints are going to turn things around and prove that they can really make a run in the MAAC, it would be here. The Saints can't put themselves in an early 0-3 hole. The Saints have done a good job of covering the number against the Bonnies in the past and I think that continues here.
