The Fresno State Bulldogs and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks play Thursday at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are 1-1 with a win over Bristol University and a loss to Pepperdine. On the season, Fresno State is averaging 83.5 points on 49.2 percent shooting and are allowing 72 points on 45.7 percent shooting. Fresno State is just trying to hold down the fort until Cezar Guerrero returns from suspension. Marvelle Harris leads Fresno State with 25 points on 55.6 percent shooting and Julien Lewis is averaging 19 points. The Fresno State Bulldogs are capable of being that sleeper team in the MWC, but we won’t find out how good they can really be until they’re 100 percent healthy and have their best player back on the court. Guerrero can’t return until the end of December. Julien Lewis and Alex Davis are both questionable for this matchup with injuries.

The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks lost both of their games to Xavier and Toledo, road games that should prepare them for conference play. On the season, Northern Arizona is averaging 59 points on 35.7 percent shooting and is allowing 82 points on 55.7 percent shooting. Quinton Upshur is once again the face of Northern Arizona, averaging 16.5 points and three rebounds. The Lumberjacks will go as far as Upshur is able to carry them. Jaleni Neely is averaging nine points and shooting 40 percent from deep, while Ako Kaluna has shined in an expanded role, dropping eight points and 4.5 rebounds. The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks are a threat to win the Big Sky this season if everybody plays to their potential. The one thing Northern Arizona will have to cut back on is the 17 turnovers its averaging through two games.
The Bulldogs are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Lumberjacks are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
While Fresno State has been great against the number on the road and is probably the better team than Northern Arizona, its a team that's missing its top player and has a few guys banged up. Give me the healthier team with the best player on the floor and the free points.
