The LSU Tigers and Old Dominion Monarchs square off Friday afternoon at the Sports and Fitness Center.
The LSU Tigers are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Gardner-Webb and Texas Tech. On the season, LSU is averaging 81 points on 44.3 percent shooting and allowing 73 points on 41.8 percent shooting. Of course, Jordan Mickey leads LSU with 19.5 points and 10 rebounds, while Jarell Martin is averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. Josh Gray and Keith Hornsby are averaging more than 30 combined points, numbers that will likely drop once they get more games under their belt. While LSU is off to a quick start, the 16 turnovers per game need to be cleaned up and the poor 23.8 percent shooting from downtown has to improve. The LSU Tigers have one of the better players in the SEC in Mickey and can be that sleeper team in the conference, but this team still has a ways to go before conference play.

The Old Dominion Monarchs are also 2-0 with wins over UNC Wilmington and Richmond. On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 69.5 points on 45 percent shooting and is allowing 56.5 points on 37.9 percent shooting. Trey Freeman leads the Monarchs with 18 points on 52.6 percent shooting and Jonathan Arledge is averaging 12 points and seven rebounds. Denzell Taylor is grabbing 8.5 rebounds in limited action and Jordan Baker is shooting 71.4 percent from three. Old Dominion has fell in love with the deep ball early and is shooting a cool 48.3 percent from beyond the arc. However, the Old Dominion Monarchs know that great defense is what’s going to win the C-USA and they’ve been solid in that department as well. ODU looks like a solid team through the first two games.
The Tigers are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 neutral site games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Monarchs are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
This is going to be a terrific game between two teams that are sure to turn heads. And since it can truly go either way, I'm going to take the Old Dominion Monarchs and the free points. Old Dominion has a good team that plays well on both sides of the ball. Don't sleep.
