The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Davidson Wildcats face off on Saturday in Charlotte in college basketball action.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are off to a 2-0 start to the season and they come into this game ranked sixth in the nation. UNC is averaging 89.5 points and they are shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc while their opponents are averaging 59.5 points and they are shooting 34.2 percent from the field. Brice Johnson is averaging 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game to lead North Carolina. USA TODAY Sports
The Davidson Wildcats are off to a 2-0 start to the season but it has come against a creampuff schedule. Davidson is averaging 86 points per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 51 points and their opponents shoot 46.9 percent. Oskar Michelson is averaging 13.5 points, Tyler Kalinoski is averaging 13.5 points, Jordan Barham is averaging 12 points, and Jake Belford is averaging 12 points. Davidson has a history of tangling with the big boys so this should be what most of their players have been looking forward to and won’t be intimidated.
North Carolina is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, 1-8 against the spread in their last nine games overall, and 0-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Davidson is 1-4 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, 4-1 against the spread following a win, and 1-4 against the spread against the ACC.
This is just a big number and I look for Davidson to stay competitive and at the very least get the cover.
