The Missouri Tigers look to pick up a win over the Chaminade Silverswords in the Maui Classic.
The Missouri Tigers look to bounce back from a pair of one sided defeats when they face Chaminade on Wednesday. The Tigers dropped their Maui Classic opener by 19 to Arizona and followed that with an 82-61 loss to Purdue as neither end of the floor did well. The Tigers fell behind by 25 at the break and never challenged as they struggled to make shots at 34.5% while the Boilermakers connected at almost 47% and held a 33-16 advantage at the stripe. The Tigers best offensive option was Jonathan Williams III with 14 points with five yanks followed by an eleven pointe effort from Keith Shamburger. Deuce Bello and Wes Clark combined for 15 points but there wasn't enough firepower to deal with Purdue.

The Chaminade Silverswords were reasonably competitive with Pittsburgh in the tournament opener but Brigham Young was a completely different story with multiple scoring options. The Cougars used them all in a 121-85 rout that was simply run and gun for 40 minutes. The Silverswords had obvious problems with the Cougars size with a 49-27 deficit on the backboards although BYU was automatic from long range with 17 threes with 55% shooting overall which made Chaminade's 37.5% marksmanship a losing number. The Silverswords were paced by Kirin Shastri's 16 points on 4-11 with Kuany Kuany adding eleven on 5-13. Lee Bailey tossed in ten with the duo of Frankie Eteuati and Kevin Hu chipping in with eight points apiece.
As I mentioned before there aren't any trends to follow for two reasons; Chaminade only plays the big names in holiday tournaments and it's too early in the season to get a handle on most teams. The Silverswords approach to this game willl be their usual MO and that they will fire away from the perimeter and hope the shots are falling because they lack the size to bang with Missouri on the inside. I think the Tigers are a better match up for Chaminade then they've had so far in Maui but they won't win. The line is not out but expect double figures in the 14-15 point range where I might take them but probably won't bet them....
