The Tennessee Volunteers battle the Santa Clara Broncos in the Orlando Classic on Thanksgiving day.
The Santa Clara Broncos are predicted to finish in the bottom half of the WCC and after a 2-2 start they need more production closer to the basket with any teams having to much size. The Broncos come in to the Orlando Classic off of a 79-52 loss to Michigan State who overpowered SCU with clear advantages throughout. The Spartans only shot 43% but Santa Clara was held to 29% and were crushed on the glass 50-28 and had nothing going in the paint. Jared Brownridge was the only double digit scorer with 12 points and five pulls on 3-12 from the field while Brandon Clark and Denzel Johnson followed with nine points each and ten rebounds on a combined 6-25 from the floor. The Spartans led by 26 at the break but eased up in the second half.
USA TODAY Sports
The Tennessee Volunteers are 1-1 after two games with a loss to VCU and a win over Texas Southern which means they lost when predicted and won when predicted. It's difficult to say where the Volunteers are after losing their head coach and four starters although they didn't miss them in a 70-58 decision versus Texas Southern. The Tigers were held to 37.5% shooting with the Vols hitting at 43% with ten more shots and a 7-16 effort on threes. Josh Richardson led four double digit scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds with Kevin Punter tossing in ten. Armani Moore and Willie Carmichael III added a combined 21 points and 15 rebounds along with five blocks. Tennessee held a +16 margin on the backboards as they were dominant inside and too big overall.
The under is 14-5 in Tennessee last 19 Thu. games while Tennessee are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. These teams have never faced on another so there aren't many trends to lean on and if there was they would probably be useless. Santa Clara is going to get much of their production out on the perimeter which means they rely heavily on their guards. By all accounts the Volunteers are a shadow of last season's squad so they will be looking to Josh Richardson to lead the way. I like the Vols because they have more size and therfore a few more options...
