The Texas El Paso Miners open the Wooden Legacy with the Princeton Tigers on Thanksgiving.
The Princeton Tigers are supposed to have a down year and perhaps challenge for a top four finish in the Ivy and while I never believe anything I read about this league I'm not sure what to think after a 1-3 start capped off by a 79-68 loss to Incarnate Word. The game was a slow defensive struggle when glancing at the numbers with both squads hitting shots in the 36%-37% range but the Cardinals won the battle at the stripe 35-22 which was decisive. Spencer Weisz paced the Tigers with a contest high 22 points and five yanks with Steven Cook adding 14 points and seven pulls. Amir Bell followed with 13 points and Hans Brase scored ten points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out five helpers.

The Texas El Paso Miners are expected by many to be one of the top teams in the CUSA and a nice 2-0 start to kick off the season hasn't changed any minds although they were fortunate to squeeze by New Mexico State 77-76. The Miners rallied from a 12 point first half hole as their offense bailed out a defense that allowed 54.5% shooting the Aggies. The Miners connected at 45.8% which at least kept the the scoreboard competitive with a 20-9 advantage at the charity stripe carrying the day...barely. UTEP received a game high 23 points from Vince Hunter with ten rebounds while Cedric Lang added another 15 points and seven boards before fouling out. Omega Harris and Julian Washburn rounded out the top contributors with 13 points and eleven points respectively.
The under is 10-3 in Princeton last 13 overall while the over is 6-2 in PRIN last 8 non-conference games. For Texas-El Paso the under is 7-1 in UTEP last 8 non-conference games while UTEP are 35-17-2 ATS in their last 54 games overall. Like I always say the Ivy never surprises me because I expect the unexpected aside from the fact that it actually amuses me at times. We'll see if the Miners are as good as advertised and honestly I'm not sure. I won't count Princeton out but in this one I'll lay the chalk...
