The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Michigan State Spartans face off on Friday at HP Field House in college basketball tournament action.
The Marquette Golden Eagles moved to 3-2 on the season and advanced to this game by knocking off Georgia Tech on Thursday. Maruqette shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 40.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 71.9 percent from the free throw line to squeeze out the two-point win. Matt Carlino had a huge game pumping in 38 points and grabbing six rebounds, Juan Anderson had 12 points and six rebounds, and Derrick Wilson had seven pints, five rebounds, and five assists as Marquette moved a game over .500. Marquette didn’t get it done on the boards as they were outrebounded 25-40 by Georgia Tech, something they may have trouble with against Michigan State as well.

The Michigan State Spartans took a 32-11 lead into the half on Thursday against Rider and never took their foot off of the gas winning by 32 to advance to this matchup. Michigan State shot 49.1 percent from the floor and 48 percent from beyond the three-point arc and converted on 73.3 percent of their free throw chances in the route. Denzel Valentine had 19 points and five rebounds to lead MSU. Bryn Forbes had 15 points, Travis Trice had 10 points and six rebounds, and Gavin Schilling had 10 points and six rebounds. Michigan State is still putting it together this season but they still have plenty of top tier talent.
Marquette is 4-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, and 1-6 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. Michigan State is 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six neutral site games, 0-5 against the spread against the Big East, and 6-0-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread.
The number here looks to be a big one but Marquette just doesn't look like the same marquette we have seen in recent years and while neither is MSU lie their recent teams they are still the far beter team here.
