The Old Dominion Monarchs pay a visit to former CAA rival the George Mason Patriots Wednesday night.
The Old Dominion Monarchs are out to prove they are one of the better teams in the CUSA and their 4-1 start is hard to argue with. I don't know whether the strength of schedule has been the greatest but a 73-67 victory over VCU on Saturday drew some attantion. The Monarchs opened a 32-18 lead in the first half and then held off the inevitable Rams rally. Defense saved ODU with Virginia Commonwealth held to 39% shooting with 17 more shots. The Monarchs needed all of their 47.6% marksmanship and 24-30 mark from the line to win. Aaron Bacote was the offensive star with 31 points and five yanks on 8-8 shooting with Trey Freeman adding 15 points followed by Jonathan Arledge and Ambrose Mosley with nine points each.

The George Mason Patriots are not off to the quick start they had hoped for as it appears their scoring has and might be an issue with 65 points being the high point through six contests. The Patriots ended a three game slide with a 64-63 victory versus Manhattan to improve to 2-4. GM held the Jaspers to 44% from the floor on just 41 shots and countered with 36.8% with 16 more looks at the basket behind a 14-4 edge on the offensive glass. George Mason received a contest high 24 points and eight rebounds from Jalen Jenkins with Patrick Holloway tossing in 18 points followed by an eleven point effort from Marquise Moore. This trio combined to shoot 18-29 from the field with the remainder of the team going 3-28.
The Monarchs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Atlantic 10 and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. ODU are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall while going 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win. For George Mason the Patriots are 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and 16-39 ATS in their last 55 games following a S.U. win. George Mason is 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall while going 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games. I don't expect a big win either way but right now Old Dominion has my attention at a small number...
