The Western Illinois Leathernecks look for a win on the road against MAC power the Akron Zips.
The Western Illinois Leathernecks have been in a rebuilding mode and how long this process will take is anybody's guess. Longer then this season but again we'll have to wait and see as they could be 4-1 instead of 2-3 with a pair of losses coming by a combined five points. WIU comes off of a 91-56 rout of sub division Greenville where they dominated just about everything. The Panthers were held to 34% shooting and had 16 giveaways which the 54.7% shooting Leathernecks took full advantage of. Garrett Covington led the scoring spree with a game high 22 points and five yanks with the duo of Jamie Batish and Tate Stensgaard tossing in 12 points apiece. JC Fuller and Jabari Sandifer added ten and nine points with Sandifer handing out 13 assists.

The MAC is a bit top heavy and the Akron Zips are one of those teams that are picked to be one of the best. The Zips have been able to score and defend thus far in the non conference part of their schedule and they'll need both once league play begins. Akron has won back to back contests after an 81-60 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff raised their record to 5-2. The upset minded Golden Lions led by one at the break before the Zips burned the nets fo 50 second half points. Akron won the shooting battle 43%-40% and owned a +17 on the glass but pulled away with a 24-7 edge at the line. Kwan Cheatham Jr. was the top scorer with 17 points and eleven rebounds with Deji Ibitayo adding 13 points while Nyles Evans, Reggie McAdams and Pat Forsythe totaled eleven points each with Forsythe snagging five boards.
The Leathernecks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games. Western Illinois are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record while going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Zips are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and Zips are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. Akron are 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games while going 16-7 ATS in their last 23 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. It doesn't appear that Western Illinois is all that bad but Akron at home at small chalk is the way I'm going...
