The Illinois State Redbirds go on the to face the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers at Bartow Arena.
Six games in to the season and Illinois State stands at 3-3 although the competition has been pretty good and not a cupcake schedule many teams have to pad the stats. The Redbirds gave VCU all they could handle in a 66-62 where the defense and shooting was outstanding but their ball protection was third rate. The Rams were held to a mere 33.8% from the floor but totaled an amazing 25 more looks at the basket thanks to 24 ISU turnovers which neutralized the Redbirds 50% marksmanship including a 7-13 mark from long range. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell poured in a team high 18 points and snagged seven boards on 6-9 shooting with Paris Lee tossing in 13. Daishon Knight and Reggie Lynch rounded out the top contributors with a combined 20 points and 12 rebounds.

A 3-3 start for Alabama-Birmingham might not seem all that impressive but with the losses coming at the hands of Wisconsin, Florida and UCLA it isn't as if the competition was bad. The Blazers are looking to build on a 58-48 victory against visiting Morehead State on Thursday. UAB broke a first half tie with a late surge as their defense controlled the dangerous scoring Eagles attack. MSU was limted to 34% from the field and gave the ball away 21 times and just 4-17 on threes. The Blazers connected at 39% and had 16 turnovers so this wasn't a perfect game from their perspective. Leading scorer CJ Washington scored 14 points and snagged seven rebounds with Tyler Madison tossing in eleven points while Hakeem Baxter and Robert Brown combined for 17 points.
The Redbirds are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record while the Redbirds are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games following a ATS win. Illinois State are 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 road games following three or more consecutive home games and are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Blazers are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. UAB are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win. Illinois State has plenty back from a season ago and UAB is much less experienced so no telling what might happen with such a young team. Dangerous bet here...
