The Boise State Broncos square off with the Southern Utah Thunderbirds at the Taco Bell Arena.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds aren't accustomed to doing a lot of winning so their 2-4 record after six games isn't all that bad in the scope of things. The Thunderbirds could get a boost from some better defense as nobody can win consistently when allowing 78 points. Neither end of the floor were an issue in a 92-45 rout of sub division St Katherine with the Firebirds held to 26.5% from the floor forced in to 21 turnovers which gave the 51.5% shooting Thunderbirds 17 more looks. Casey Oliverson led a trio of DD scorers with 12 points with Tyler Rawson and AJ Hess combining for 21 points and 14 rebounds. Cal Hanks, Christian Thompson and Travon Langston added nine points apiece as scoring was no issue.
The Boise State Broncos have been able to score and defend which is why they are staring at a 7-2 record. The Broncos have won three in a row after crushing NW Nazarine 91-51 with a 21 point lead at the half essentially enough to put this game in to the win column. The Crusaders struggled to keep up on the scoreboard with only 36% from the floor with 18 giveaways. Boise State had no such problems with 56% marksmanship including 13-24 from long range. Derrick Marks tossed in a contest best 19 points with James Webb III right on his heels with 18 points and eleven rebounds. Montigo Alford and Nick Duncan scored nine points each while Mikey Thompson added eight points as the Broncos emptied the bench.
The Thunderbirds are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while going 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. SUU are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Broncos are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Boise State are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. I think the Broncos can cover if they want but the Thunderbirds can score which makes the cover a possibility...
