The VCU Rams are no longer a novelty act as now every year the expectations for Shaka Smart’s team are raised. Treveon Graham is averaging 17.8 points and 6.6 rebounds to led the Rams. Melvin Johnson is averaging 16.3 points, Briante Weber is averaging 8.9 points, and Jordan Burgess is averaging 8.2 points. The Belmont Bruins are 7-3 this season but they have lost their last two games. Belmont is averaging 73.3 points and they are shooting 45.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.4 points and their opponents are shooting 43.2 percent. Craig Bradshaw leads he Bruins averaging 21.2 points per game but he is doubtful for this one. Taylor Barnette is averaging 12.2 points but is questionable, Evan Bradds is averaging 13 points and 6.1 rebounds, and Reece Chamberlain is averaging 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds. Belmont is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament but without their top scorer this could be a bad spot.
VCU is 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games, 0-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four non-conference games. Belmont is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, 7-3 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
This is a big number but while Belmont’s numbers indicate they can put numbers up, they will need everything they have and because of the injuries they likely won’t have that so the play is VCU.
