The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks pay a visit to Redbird Arena to squareoff with the Illinois State Redbirds.
The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks have played five consecutive contests away from home so it's been a difficult schedule as they head to Illinois State Wednesday. It hasn't hurt the Skyhawks in the win column as they bring in a 6-2 record after edging Illinois-Chicago 81-78 in overtime on Monday. UTM saw the Flames go on a 17-2 second half run to tie it with seconds left but they never trailed in the extra session. The visitors played well offensively with 45% shooting while Illinois-Chicago checked in at 38% but stayed in the game with eleven more shots. Deville Smith was the star of the game with 26 points, six yanks and seven assists with Alex Anderson adding 16 points, five pulls and six helpers. Twymond Howard followed with 14 points and ten rebounds while Marshun Newell netted 12 points.

The Illinois State Redbirds 5-3 record doesn't look out of the ordinary but looking at what they have done I would say the schedule has been tougher then most which makes their record look rather good in my eyes. The Redbird should have some momentum with back to back victories and wins in three of four overall after a 78-72 decision over DePaul on the road Sunday. The Blue Demons shot the ball well at 47% but 18 giveaways and the Redbirds 14 offensive rebounds added up eight more looks to keep 39% shooting ISU alive with 21-12 edge at the line pushing them over the top. Daishon Knight poured in a game high 25 points with MiKyle McIntosh and and Reggie Lynch scoring 14 and 13 points with Lynch snagging 13 rebounds. Nine players saw the floor and eight scored.
The Skyhawks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games. Tennessee-Martin are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Redbirds are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Ohio Valley and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. Illinois State are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Redbirds are the better team and win and the question for me is whether the tired Skyhawks stay reasonably close of get blown out...
