The #14 Utah Utes look to climb the national rankings with a win over the UNLV Rebels.
The PAC 12 looks to be as strong as ever and one of the reasons is the 7-2 Utah Utes who have dropped a four point decision to San Diego State and and a three pointer to Kansas which are hardly something to be ashamed of. The Utes are coming off a 63-60 loss to the Jayhawks in a game that might have turned out different if not for a slow start that saw KU take an 18 point lead. The Utes mustered just 39% shooting and totaled eleven more looks but eventually the Jayhawks 42% from the floor and 21-23 effort at the stripe were just too much. Delon Wright carried the offense with a game high 23 points and five yanks on 9-13 but he needed help. Brandon Taylor and Jakob Poeltl combined for 17 points with Poeltl hauling in eleven rebounds but little help came from elsewhere.

There was a time where UNLV and top 25 were as natural as breathing but in recent years this team has had to work hard for everything they have gotten. Having said that the Rebels are 7-2 so it's not all doom and gloom especially with a three game winning streak under their belt. UNLV is looking to build on their 75-73, overtime victory versus visiting Portland on Wednesday. The Pilots connected at 44% from the field and totaled seven more looks which kept them even with the 49% shooting Rebels who hurt themselves with a 4-22 performance from beyond the arc. Rashad Vaughn was the star of the UNLV attack with a contest best 25 points and seven boards on 9-13. Christian Wood followed with 17 points and six pulls while Cody Doolin and Patrick McCaw netted 15 points and eight points respectively.
The Utes are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. Mountain West and 19-5-2 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games. Utah are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games. The Runnin' Rebels are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. win and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. UNLV are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Pacific-12 and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss. It looks to me that Utah is the real deal but I have mixed feelings about UNLV so...
