The Leavey Center and the Santa Clara Broncos welcome the Cal Poly Mustangs to town in Tuesday action.
The Cal Poly Mustangs are looking like they are a step ahead of last season going strictly by their 5-5 record. The Mustangs score and allow around 61 points so the need for offense is an obvious weakness. It was certainly a weakness in a 63-50 loss to Gonzaga but then it was Gonzaga and CP did hang tough as a 22 point underdog. It was an ugly game with 32 turnovers with the Zags leading the shooting battle 45.7%-39.6% but the decisive number came at the charity strip where the Bulldogs turned 25 Cal Poly fouls in to a 16-5 advantage. David Nwaba was the Mustangs only double figure scorer with 21 points and five yanks on 10-16 with Brian Bennett and Reese Morgan combining for 16 points.

The West Coast seems like it is a top heavy conference each and every year with the same faces always pushing and shoving for position. The problem is the league doesn't have a whole lot of parity but 2014-15 might be more even then in recent memory. I still don't know where that leaves Santa Clara but my gut says this team could challenge for a spot in the middle of the pack if the offense can give the team more then 64 points. As luck would have it the Broncos did some scoring in a 78-72 loss to Northeastern Saturday but the bottom line was 44% from the floor and 13 more looks still didn't match the Huskies nearly 69%.Jared Brownridge was one of five double digit scorers with 18 points followed by Nate Kratch with his 15 points and eight boards. Denzel Johnson turned in a 13 point, six assist effort while Matt Hubbard netted 12 points and snagged nine rebounds.
The Mustangs are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 vs. West Coast and are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games following a S.U. loss. Cal Poly are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games. The Broncos are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss and are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Santa Clara are 13-30 ATS in their last 43 home games and 15-36 ATS in their last 51 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. I don't think these teams are night and day different and with that being said I feel better taking the points...
