The George Mason Patriots will travel to the Lloyd Noble Center to take on the Oklahoma Sooners this Wednesday evening.

The George Mason Patriots improved to 5-6 on the season after defeating the Wright State Raiders 68-80 just over a week ago on December 23rd.  The Patriots shot 52.0% from the field and outrebounded the Raiders 37-24 in the victory. Leading the way for George Mason was Shevon Thompson who had a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. George Mason struggled out of the gates this season however, have now won three straight games including a 71-65 win vs. Iona. Leading the way for the Patriots have been Patrick Holloway (12.8 ppg, 1.5 rpg), Shevon Thompson (12.7 ppg, 11.3 rpg), and Marquise Moore (10.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg). Offensively, George Mason is averaging 68.8 ppg (ranked 160th) on 43.4% shooting (ranked 179th). The Patriots struggle from beyond the arc as they only average 4.2 three-pointers per game (ranked 330th) on 31.1% shooting (255th). Oklahoma Sooners vs. George Mason Patriots - 12/31/14 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The 18th ranked Oklahoma Sooners rebounded from their 69-67 loss to the 16th ranked Washington Huskies to beat the Weber State Wildcats 85-51 on December 22nd to improve to 8-3 on the season. The Sooners scored an NCAA record 39 straight points to take a 51-12 lead at the end of the first half. Leading the way for the Sooners was Ryan Spangler who had 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Oklahoma is ranked 40th in the RPI Standings and have played the 62nd ranked SOS. On the season, Oklahoma have been led by Buddy Hield (15.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 spg), Isaiah Cousins (13.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg), and Ryan Spangler (10.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg). Offensively, the Sooners are averaging 75.2 ppg (ranked 47th) on 45.2% shooting (ranked 103rd). Oklahoma shoots 72.9% from the free-throw line. Defensively, Oklahoma is holding their opponents to an average of 60.9 ppg (ranked 70th) on 36.5% shooting (ranked 18th). Oklahoma is grabbing 29.45 defensive rpg (ranked 4th) and 39.82 total rpg (ranked 39.82).

The Patriots are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Sooners are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS win.

Oklahoma can score as well as any team in the country but what really makes this team different this year is the way their defensive is playing. Although the Sooners are a very tough team to play at home, George Mason really has played some solid basketball winning 3 of their last 4 and almost knocked off UNI on their home court. George Mason has shown enough over the past few weeks that I think they can stay within this large spread. Take the Patriots and the points.
