The IPFW Mastodons and Western Illinois Leathernecks open the Summit League schedule at Western Hall.
The IPFW Mastodons are supposed to be a factor in the Summit League although their early seaon hasn't been great. They have dropped three of four after a 71-57 defeat at the hands of visiting Cal Poly on Tuesday where the Mustangs took a 12 point lead in to the break and were never in danger. Both teams sank shots in the 44%-45% range with the Mustangs owning ten more shots and a 9-20 mark on three pointers to pull away. Mo Evans led the Mastodons offense with 15 pounts and was joined in the double digit scoring column by Steve Forrbes with 12 points. Joe Edwards and Michael Calder combined for 16 points but production was difficult to come by in general.

This is supposed to be an off year for the Western Illinois Leatherbacks but from what I have seen from the Summit League there doesn't appear to be any clear cut favorites. The Leathernecks enter conference play as winners in three of four after downing sub division Anderson 74-62 on Tuesday. In a sloppy contest both teams combined for 33 turnovers but the difference was the Ravens hit shots at 37% and the Leathernecks connected at almost 48% for ten more field goals. Jabari Sandifer led all scorers with 16 points and five yanks while JC Fuller and Jalen Chapman tossed in 15 points apiece with Chapman grabbing ten boards. Mohamed Conde scored 12 points and haulded in 18 rebounds with Garret Covington chipping in with nine points.
The Mastodons are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS loss and are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. IPFW are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a S.U. loss and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 vs. Summit. The Leathernecks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and are 11-27 ATS in their last 38 games overall. Western Illinois are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The trends say the Mastodons are the choice but they seem a bit over rated to me but neither squad is appealing...
