The Portland State Vikings welcome Big Sky rival the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks to the Stott Center.
There seems to be a changing of the guards in the Big Sky with heavyweights Weber State and Montana struggling which seems to leave the door open for teams like the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. We'll see if the Lumberjacks can do something about it although they didn't in the Big Sky opener in a 78-73 loss at Sacramento State Thursday. The Hornets made shots at 51% including 9-13 on threes with NAU staying competitive on 43% from the floor and a 25-17 edge at the stripe. Leading scorer Quinton Upshur tossed in 18 points and posted five yanks with a 14 point, seven rebound effort from Jordyn Martin. Aeseem Dixon and Ako Kaluna followed with eleven points apiece with Kris Yanku adding nine points and ten assists.

The Portland State Vikings might be a factor in the wide open Big Sky if they can pick up the defensive intensity as they are being outscored 71-70 although they have been playing well with victories in three of four to improve to 7-4 on the season. The Vikings outlasted a stubborn Southern Utah squad 71-68 to open the Big Sky slate with a 1-0 record. The Thunderbirds held a 47%-37% shooting advantage but Portland State turned 30 SUU fouls in to a 28-17 edge at the line which was decisive. Gary Winston paced the Vikings with a game high 18 points and five yanks followed by a 16 point, seven pull performance from Braxton Tucker. DaShaun Wiggins added 12 points and seven boards despite 1-10 shooting while Tiegbe Bamba chipped in with ten points.
The Lumberjacks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big Sky and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.Northern Arizona are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Vikings are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 Saturday games and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Portland State are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. I don't see a ton of difference here but my gut tells me Northern Arizona is the better team...
