The Central Michigan Chippewas and Toledo Rockets begin the MAC schedule at Savage Hall Tuesday.
I know the Central Michigan Chippewas haven't played the toughest schedule but I am still surprised at their 10-1 record. I am even more surprised the Chippewas own the second ranked offense at 88 points so it's easy to see why this team has been so successful. CMU warmed up for the start of conference play with a 125-80 rout of Central Pennsylvania College with a 68-43 first half ending this from a competitive standpoint. The Chips burned the nets at 57% and held a 16-2 advantage from long range to light up the scoreboard. Rayshawn Simmons led the scoring with 20 points and 12 assists with Braylon Rayson, Chris Fowler and Austin Stewart adding 14 points. Josh Kozinski and Austin Keel tallied 12 points each with 14 players scoring.

The Toledo Rockets are no strangers to lighting up the scoreboard themselves and their defense has shown some positive signs which makes them a dangerous team if both ends of the floor are on the same page. The Rockets were supposed to rock Northern Kentucky in the final game before MAC play began but instead survived a 57-55 nailbiter on the road. The defense saved the day by limiting the Norse to 38% from the field which made their 33% marksmanship a winning effort with a few more free throws and and extra three barely enough. JD Weatherspoon led all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds on 7-10 with Jonathan Williams scoring 15. Julius Brown chipped in with eight points but offense was lacking otherwise.
The Chippewas are 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 4-1-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Central Michigan are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game. The Rockets are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 home games following three or more consecutive road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Toledo are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. Mid-American. Central Michigan has the high flying record but Toledo is the better squad. Having said that the Chips do play the Rockets tough so I'll take the points...
