The Mercer Bears look to continue their hot start in the SoCon when the Furman Paladins Thursday.
The Furman Paladins have struggled to get their scoring and defense on the same page the majority of the season which is why the team is sitting at 4-11. Both have had a hand in their 1-3 start to the conference schedule after 83-73 defeat at the hands of visiting VMI with the Keydets 39-30 second half busting the game open. The Paladins held a slight 47%-44% shooting edge but VMI used 17 turnovers to total ten more looks and a 12-32 effort from long range putting this in the win column. Stephen Croone paced Furman with a game high 21 points and and ten rebounds on 5-9 from the floor while Kris Acox added 14 points and nine boards. Daniel Fowler was next in line with 13 points while Devin Sibley chipped in with nine points.

The Mercer Bears return to the SoCon has been all good so far with a solid 4-1 record with a one point loss to East Tennessee State ruining a perfect start. The Bears are looking to build on one of their more complete performances in a 74-51 rout of the Citadel on Saturday. The Bears were up nine at the half and never let up until the final horn sounded. The Bulldogs sank half their looks with Mercer connnecting at 52% with eight more shots with a 15-1 margin at the stripe providing plenty of firepower. Ike Nwamu led a trio of double digit scorers with on 6-11 while the tandem of Darious Moten and Phillip Leonard netted 13 points apiece with Leonard grabbing eight rebounds. Jestin Lewis and Jibri Bryan rounded out the top conributors with a combined 17 points.
