The Evansville Purple Aces brace for a visit from the #15 Wichita State Shockers at the Ford Center.
Even though many feel this Wichita State Shockers squad is not as good as in previous seasons we have a team that is 15-2 and outscores opponents 72-59 so they look pretty good to me. The Shockers have opened the Missouri Valley schedule with a oefect 5-0 mark after disposing of Southern Illinois 67-55 on Wednesday. WSU jumped to a 16 point lead going to the locker room before taking their foot off the gas in a game they were never challenged in. The Salukis offense never got untracked on 39% from the floor while WSU sank half their looks and had eight more makes at the stripe. Darius Carter exploded for 25 points on 11-15 from the field with Ron Baker and Tekele Cotton combining for 21 points. The Shockers eventually emptied the bench with 14 players seeing the floor.

The Evansville Purple Aces have been known for their scoring prowess in year's past but this season they have added some defense to the mix. The Purple Aces can still fill the basket at 75 points but allowing 64 points is the reason the record is an impressive 13-4. The Purple Aces can thank the D for Wednesday's 56-54 decision at Missouri State where the Bears were held to 36% from the floor which negated ten extra looks. Evansville countered with 40% marksmanship but won it with an 18-12 edge at the charity stripe. Mislav Brzoja paced three double digit scorers with a game high 18 points and five yanks on 4-8 shooting while Egidijus Mockevicius contributed 14 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Jalon Brown netted ten points but the rest of the team mustered only 14 points.
The Shockers are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 vs. Missouri Valley and 38-15 ATS in their last 53 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Wichita State are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 Saturday games and 37-15 ATS in their last 52 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Purple Aces are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Evansville are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Wichita State is ranked for a reason but Evansville has generally covered the number in this match up so I'm taking the points...
