The Villanova Wildcats visit The Palestra to face the Penn Quakers in Big Five action Saturday.
A few years ago people were wondering what is going on with a struggling Villanova Wildcats club but fast forward to the present and Jay Wright has a top five club and national title contender who can score and defend as well as any team. Nova needed their offense in Wednesday's 88-75 victory over visiting Xavier and were not let down with an 18 point lead at the break icing the Musketeers whose late rally fell short. Xavier stayed competitive with over 47% shooting but Villanova hit at a 46% clip including a 15-34 effort on threes. Ryan Arcidiacono tossed in a game high 18 points and posted five dishes with a 17 point, six board effort from Dylan Ennis. Josh Hart was next in line with 15 points and seven boards while JayVaughn Pinkston rounded out the top scorers with 12 points.

The Penn Quakers are probably in a fight to stay out of the Ivy League basement although I think this team has shown some improvement over prior years. Obviously there is a need to get even better but the Quakers were clearly the better squad in Tuesday's 67-56 win at Niagara. Penn erased a two deficit at the break with a 45 point burst over the final 20 minutes with the Purple Eagles limited to 32% which made the Quakers 40.8% marksmanship an easy winner. Tony Hicks led all scorers with 18 points and five assists on 5-9 shooting while Greg Louis and Matt Howard added 12 and eleven points with Howard fouling out in just 17 minutes. Darien Nelson-Henry rounded out the top contributors with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Wildcats are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. Villanova are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 non-conference games and 25-10 ATS in their last 35 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The Quakers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 games following a S.U. win. Penn are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 vs. Big East and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win. Villanova has the potential to cover if they play their best but Penn is a big rival and will give Nova their best shot...
