Pepperdine Waves vs. Portland Pilots - 1/17/15 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Pepperdine Waves had their three game winning snapped and dropped to 11-6 (4-2 WCC) after being defeated by the 3rd ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs 78-76 this past Thursday. Pepperdine allowed Gonzaga to shoot 56.9% from the field and 50.0% (6-12) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Waves was Jett Raines who had 22 points and 6 rebounds. Pepperdine is ranked 152nd in the RPI Standings and has played the 256th ranked SOS. On the season, the Waves have been led by Seth Davis (16.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.2 apg) and Jett Raines (11.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg). Offensively, Pepperdine is averaging 67.7 ppg (ranked 175th) on 43.9% shooting (ranked 154th). The Pilots are shooting 75.6% from the free throw line and are averaging 15.2 apg (ranked 43rd). Defensively, Pepperdine is holding their opponents to an average of 62.0 ppg (ranked 73rd) on 40.5% shooting (ranked 93rd). The Waves are the best in the nation in three-point FG defensive as they are holding their opponents to just 24.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Pepperdine is averaging 25.65 defensive rpg (ranked 80th) and 34.53 total rpg (ranked 190th).

The Pilots are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Waves are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. the WCC and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win.

Portland got Bruce Pressley back for last game but struggled once again offensively and drop their second straight game in the WCC. Pepperdine has been playing great as of late and almost pulled off a major upset against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Pepperdine seems to have everything going well for them as of right now and although it’s always hard to come to the gym with the same intensity after playing a top-5 in the country, I think Pepperdine’s defensive will got them the win and that they will cover this spread. Take Pepperdine to cover.
