The Hawaii Warriors make the long trip to the mainland to take the floor with the UC Riverside Highlanders.
The Hawaii Warriors look as if they have the potential to be a top four team in the Big West although the conference schedule is just beginning and we need to see them perform away from home. The Warriors have a dangerous offense that makes them a threat which we saw in an 83-68 victory over visiting Cal State Northridge where a 44-31 second half run broke open a two point game. The Matadores hit at 46% but gave the ball away an amazing 27 times to a team that was sinking half their looks which meant 'game over'. Aaron Valdes was unstoppable with a game high 34 points and five steals on 13-18 shooting with Stefan Jankovic adding 15 points. Isaac Fleming and Mike Thomas combined for 18 points to provide nice secondary scoring.

The UC Riverside Highlanders don't have numbers that jump off the page at 68 points scored and 66 given up which in fact doesn't leave much wiggle room if either unit struggles. That was the case in a 74-61 loss to visiting UC Davis Thursday as the Aggies took a 12 point lead in to the intermission before trading baskets over the final 20 minutes. The UCD offense proved to be a handful behind nearly 48% from the field and a 10-17 perfomance from beyond the arc. The Highlanders responded with 38% accuracy and fell short in most areas with the Aggies more balanced offensively. Jalen Bland shouldered the Riverside attack with a game high 29 points on 10-16 from the field which included seven bombs. Steve Thornton added ten points and five yanks but scoring options were limited.
The Warriors are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. Hawaii are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big West and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Highlanders are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss. The Warriors are playing their first true road game and the only success the Highlanders have had are at home. Looks like spitting hairs as this is a toss up and I'd like to see Hawaii on the road before backing them but I don't have that luxury...
