The Santa Barbara Gauchos welcome Big West rival the UC Riverside Highlanders to the UCSB Events Center.
The UC Riverside Highlanders have a competitive offense and an okay defense but need both on the same page to be successful. Both had a hand in Saturday's 66-62 decion over visiting Hawaii although the offense also made things to close with numerous miscues. The Highlanders cut a DD hole to three at the half and closed out the final 20 minutes with a complete effort at both ends of the floor. UCR held a 46%-35%shooting advantage with more threes and makes at the foul line to overcome 23 giveaways that led the way to 19 more attempts by the Warriors. Steven Thornton was the offensive star with 22 points with Jaylen Bland adding 15 points and five pulls. Austin Quick netted eleven points while Taylor Johns chipped in with seven points and seven rebound while blocking four shots.

The Santa Barbara Gauchos are another team that has scoring potential that combines with a top 100 defense that allows less then 63 points. With 68 points scored I tend to think the Gauchos record should be better then 8-9 but a tough strength of schedule might be to blame. UCSB was handled easily at Long Beach State Saturday by a 69-53 count as a 14 point first half lead was more then enough to subdue the Gauchos who hit at 24% from the floor. That made the 49ers 42.6% look red hot with LBSU also owning a 43-30 edge on the backboards. Alan Williams led three double digit scorers with 17 points and nine rebounds John Green and Zalmico Harmon combining for 21 points followed by a nine point effort from Gabe Vincent.
The Highlanders are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. win. Riverside are 8-3-2 ATS in their last 13 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 road games. The Gauchos are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Santa Barbara are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss. The Highlanders have done well in this match up but I get the feeling the Gauchos are going to explode soon and it could be here so I'll probably avoid this...
