The Monmouth Hawks and Niagara Purple Eagles meet for the first time this year at the Multipurpose Activity Center.
It's already been a long season for the Niagara Purple Eagles as they've struggled at both ends of the floor on the way to a 3-14 record. The offense looked good but the defense had some issues in Sunday's 74-70 loss to visiting Siena with the Saints making a four point half time lead stand up. The Saints sank half their looks but kept Niagara in the game with 18 giveaways giving the 40% shooting Purple Eagles 17 more looks which paid off. The Purple Eagles received a game high 21 points and six pulls on 8-14 shooting from Emile Blackman followed by a 16 point, nine rebound effort from Dominique Reid. Ramone Snowden and Karonn Davis netted 12 and eight points with each posting five assists.

While the Monmouth Hawks look like a legitimate threat in the MAAC they stepped away from conference action to face the Penn Quakers on the road Wednesday. The result was not pretty for the Quakers who were soundly beaten 71-54. The Hawks took a 19 point lead in to the locker room and were never challenged with Penn held to 41% accuracy while the visitors nailed shots at 56% including an efficient 5-10 performance from beyond the arc. Deon Jones led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds on 6-8 accuracy with Collin Stewart and Max Dileo each contributing 12 points. Justin Robinson and Brice Kofane netted eight points apiece while the entire eight man rotation managed to find the scoring column.
The Purple Eagles are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. loss. Niagara are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 road games following three or more consecutive home games. The Hawks are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Monmouth are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 home games. Big spread for a Monmouth squad that generally doesn't win big and Niagara club that has shown some life the past two times out. Thanks but no thanks...
