The Illinois State Redbirds host the Evansville Purple Aces in a battle of top four teams in the Missouri Valley.
The Evansville Purple Aces have enough scoring and defensive power to compete with any team in the Missouri Valley and are not a team you want to see when both ends of the floor are playing well. Neither was strong in a 70-65 defeat at Drake Saturday that snapped a three game winning streak. The Purple Aces shot the ball well enough to win at 47% but the Bulldogs 55% marksmanship with a few more threes and foul shots were enough to squeeze out the win. Evansville received 17 points from DJ Balentine on 6-19 with Adam Wing adding 15 points and five yanks on 5-7 marksmanship. Blake Simmons followed with nine points while Duane Gibson and Egidijus Mockevicius scoring eight points apiece with the latter posting five pulls.

Similar to their rivals the Illinois State Redbirds have solid units at both ends of the floor so they are obviously a top four threat in the Missouri Valley and capable of knocking off anyone. The defense was front and center in Saturday's 48-45 decision at Loyola (Chicago) for their 4th win in five contests. The Redbirds found themselves up seven at the intermission and managed to fend off the Ramblers the rest of the way. LCU led the shooting battle 43%-37% but ISU used 13 offensive rebounds and 13 giveaways to post nine more shots which turned out to be crucial. Deontae Hawkins was the visitors only double digit scorer with eleven points and five yanks while Daishon Knight and Reggie Knight netted nine points each with the latter postin five blocks.
The Purple Aces are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Evansville are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. The Redbirds are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game and 14-29 ATS in their last 43 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Illinois State are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. This game has generally been competitive and Evansville has done well so I'll back the points...
