The Cal Poly Mustangs will be going for the season sweep of Hawaii when the Warriors visit Mott Gym.
The Hawaii Warriors might not be challenging for the top spot in the Big West with a 3-4 conference record but a top four position is well within grasp. This team's best chance of winning is scoring the basketball and that didn't happen in Saturday's 65-50 defeat at Long Beach State as an 8.5 point underdog. UH were outscored 39-23 in the second half in what had been a competitive contest. Hawaii struggled to make shots at less then 35% while the 49ers hit at just 42% but owned a decisive 23-7 advantage at the stripe. Stefan Jankovic was the only player to reach double figures in scoring with 13 points on 5-9 from the field while Aaron Valdes and Mike Thomas contributed eight points with Thomas Hauling in a game high ten rebounds.

In my view the Cal Poly Mustangs have improved by leaps and bound but it isn't enough to make a run at the Big West crown and might not be enough to reach the upper half of the conference with some issues in winning close contests. The Mustangs have dropped back to back contests after an 81-78 overtime loss to UC Davis. This was one that got away with CP up ten at the intermission before the Aggies tied it late. Both teams sank around half their looks with UC Davis hitting four more bombs which about the biggest difference in the boxscore. Brian Bennett shouldered the offense with a contest best 27 points and nine rebounds with Maliik Love adding 15 points and seven boards. Ridge Shipley and Joel Awich combined for 21 points with Shipley posting eight helpers while David Nwaba scored nine points and grabbed seven boards.
The Warriors are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss. Hawaii are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 vs. Big West and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Mustangs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Cal Poly are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. I am going to take Hawaii and the points in a low scoring contest although the Warriors on the road is not a way to build a bankroll...
