The Canisius Golden Griffins battle the Manhattan Jaspers at Draddy Gymnasium in MAAC action Friday.
The Canisius Golden Griffins are battling for a top four spot and have struggled offensively in dropping two of three so the goal is to get the offense back on track. The Golden Griffins fell victim to hot shooting Marist 75-67 on Sunday as a 10 point favorite but less then 31% marksmanship wasn't good enough. The normally reliable defense wasn't good enough either with the Red Foxes connecting at 54%. Canisius didn't get blown out because they used 27 offensive rebounds to post 29 more shots which went for naught. Zach Lewis paced the attack with 19 points and eight boards on 6-19 accuracy with Jermaine Crumpton adding 18 points on 6-10. Josiah Heath chipped in with nine points but owned the backboards with 17 rebounds.

The Manhattan Jaspers might be finally putting things together which would be bad news for the rest of the conference. The Jaspers have won three in a row after dispatching Monmouth 87-76 on the road. A 42-24 first half gave the Jaspers the momentum they needed and the Hawks couldn't climb out of a very deep hole on just 38% shooting. Manhattan had no such issues on 54% shooting including a 9-20 mark from distance. Emmy Andujar poured in a contest best 27 points on 8-10 from the floor with Shane Richards adding 20 points and eight rebounds on 8-10. Ashton Pankey followed with eleven points while RaShawn Stores chipped in with nine points and nine helpers. The Jaspers had a nice mix of explosiveness and balance with ten players scoring altogether.
The Golden Griffins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Canisius are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 road games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Jaspers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record while going 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Friday games. Manhattan appears to be in a groove but I always say be cautious because they are in the MAAC...
