The Boston University Terriers visit the Kirby Sports Center to face the Lafayette Leopards on Monday night.
The Boston University Terriers lost some very good talent and are not the 900 pound gorilla in the Patriot League they were a season ago which their 9-13 record tells us. The Terriers have been struggling to get their defense going and that led to a three game slide that BU ended in a 62-59 victory over visiting Navy on Wednesday. The Terriers sank half their looks but the Midshipmen stayed competitive on 41% marksmanship with seven more looks at the basket helping out in an otherwise even game. Eric Fanning was the go to scorer with a game high 20 points on 6-11 shooting with Cedric Hankerson tossing in 13 points and posting five assists while turning the ball over six times. Justin Alston netted ten points and hauled in eleven rebounds followed by John Papale with eight points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Lafayette Leopards are currently in the 4th spot in the Patriot League and are looking to move up a rung or two as they are currently riding the momentum of a three game winning streak. If the Leopards do make a push towards the top of the conference it will likely be because of their hig scoring offense that averages 75 points. Lafayette needed every point they could muster in Wednesday's 84-74 overtime win versus Bucknell in which they needed a big rally from a 15 point first half deficit. Lafayette connected at nearly 55% and held a 20-11 edge at the stripe but the Bison stayed in the game with eleven more looks on 42% accuracy. Dan Trist could not be stopped with a game high 29 points and eleven rebounds on 12-17 followed by a 26 point effort from Nick Ledner on 7-12 from the field. Bryce Scott chipped in with eight points and Seth Hinrichs grabbed ten boards to round out the top contributors.
The Terriers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Monday games. Boston U are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. win and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall while going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Leopards are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Both teams have conflicting numbers against similar competition but it seems like Lafayette plays to their level of competition so I'll take the points...
