The Canisius Golden Griffins look to get back in the MAAC race when the Rider Broncs pay a visit Friday.
The Rider Broncs are second in the MAAC behind Iona at 10-4 with enough season to catch the Gaels although there is also enough time to fall from the top four so there are no guarantees. The Broncs have been holding up their end of the bargain with wins in four of five with back to back overtime victories after downing Manhattan 85-77 on Sunday. The Jaspers were held to 39% shooting with Rider hitting at 52% which equaled seven more baskets and the win. Matt Lopez carried his team with a game high 27 points an ten rebounds on 10-14 from the floor followed by a 16 point, five pull and six assist effort from Teddy Okereafor. Jimmie Taylor and Zedric Saddler netted 13 and eight points with the offense having plenty of options.

The Canisius Golden Griffins looked like one of the teams that was capable of taking down Iona a few short weeks ago but things have taken a turn for the worse with three consecutive losses that has dropped the team all the way to 6th. The Golden Giffins have outscored opponents 63-61 but really need a boost in scoring. A good example of that was Sunday's 44-40 defeat at Monmouth where they scored just 16 first half points on 31.8% accuracy. Fortunately the Hawks were held to 34% marksmanship with a 15-2 advantage at the charity stripe still not enough to win. Zach Lewis was the only double digit scorer for either side but he was just 4-13 from the field while Josiah Heath and Jamal Reynolds combined for 13 points with Heath snagging a game high seven rebounds.
The Broncs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Friday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. Rider are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Golden Griffins are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game. Canisius are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. This is a great match up on paper and to me the points in a low scoring contest is the way I would go...
