I would have to say I expected more from the Houston Cougars then a 1-10 conference record but they have really struggled to get their scoring and defense on the same page. The Cougars don't possess a big offense so when they do score the game has to go in the win column and that didn't happen in a 75-69 loss to visiting Southern Methodist on Thursday. The Mustangs were a red hot 53.7% from the floor with the Cougars staying competitive on 40.7% thanks to eleven makes from long range. Jherrod Stiggers led a trio of double figure scorers with 17 points followed by a 14 point, ten rebound night from LeRon Barnes. Devonta Pollard added 13 points and five yanks while Danrad Knowles and LJ Rose combined for 17 points with Knowles posting five boards.

I suppose Central Florida could go on a season ending hot streak to move up a notch or two in the conference standings but at 3-9 in league play I think winning a few games now would be more of a confidence booster heading in to the postseason where one of the top teams would not want to see a hot team. The Knights took a step in the right direction with a 73-62 victory over South Florida Wednesday where an early eleven point lead held up. The Bulls were limited to under 36% marksmanship which nullified 19 more looks at the basket while the hosts connected at 49% and sank nine more free throws to win comfortably. Kasey Wilson was the offensive star with a game high 18 points and eleven rebounds on 7-10 shooting with BJ Taylor adding 15 points and five yanks. Staphon Blair netted 14 points and grabbed seven boards while Daiquan Walker tossed in ten.
The Cougars are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 vs. American Athletic Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games following three or more consecutive home games. Houston are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Knights are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games. Central Florida are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. We are talking abou two teams that are 5-15 the last 20 games and if that doesn't dull your confidence...
