The James Madison Dukes look to continue their winning ways when the Charleston Cougars on Saturday.
The Charleston Cougars are not going far in the Colonial as this has been a year of rebuilding with their offense being the biggest concern at under 60 points. Scoring was hardly an issue in a 77-63 defeat of Elon that gave the Cougars the season sweep of their rivals. CofC was in control throughout with the Phoenix attack limited to just 37.5% marksmanship while Charleston seldom missed on 56% accuracy which added up to nine more baskets. Canyon Barry was the Cougars best scoring option with 22 points on 7-14 from the field including four bombs. Joe Chealey added 16 points and nine rebounds while Anthony Stitt and Adjehi Baru netted eight points apiece with Baru snaring seven rebounds with nine players scoring overall.
USA TODAY Sports
The James Madison Dukes have scored and allowed 67 point on the season but the offense has been playing above those numbers. I think while the rest of the conference has been looking at the William & Mary's, Northeastern's and UNC Wilmington's, the Dukes have quietly made their move with four consecutive victories that has them sitting in third. JMU looks to build on an 82-78 win over visiting Drexel on Wednesday. The Dragons hit at 43% and nailed 14 bombs while James Madison burned the nets at 57% accuracy with eight threes and a 26-14 advantage at the foul line. Ron Curry was the Dukes offensive star with 25 points on 5-9 from the field followed by an 18 point, seven board performance from Tom Vodanovich. Dimitrije Cabarkapa and Yohanny Dalembert added 12 and ten points with Joey McLean chipping in with eight points.
The Cougars are 20-45-1 ATS in their last 66 games overall and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. win. Charleston are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Dukes are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games. ames Madison are 18-37 ATS in their last 55 home games and 15-38-1 ATS in their last 54 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. James Madison might just be the darkhorse in the CAA and we'll see if they get the job done here...
