The Illinois State Redbirds look to split the season series with the visiting Southern Illinois Salukis.
The Southern Illinois Salukis are sitting next to last in the Missouri Valley which is a bad spot to be in for the conference playoffs because the opponent will be Wichita State or Northern Iowa. The Salukis have not been able to squeeze enough out of their offense and that has played a role in their current four game slide that was capped off by 78-58 loss at Indiana State where the defense compounded things. The Sycamores wasted no time with a 14 point lead after 20 minutes behind 49% marksmanship and nine bombs while SIU couldn't keep up the pace on less then 41%. Anthony Beane Jr. led all scorers with 22 points on 9-15 from the floor with Deon Lavender next in line with ten points with five turnovers. Jordan Caroline added nine points and five yanks but six others scored just 19 points.

The Illinois State Redbirds need to win both games remaining on the schedule to sneak in to the top four of the Missouri Valley. The Redbirds seemed like a lock a few weeks ago before a three game slide dropped them to 5th and now the team is trying to regroup with consecutive victories after downing Loyola (Chicago) 67-60 at home Saturday as a 10.5 point favorite. The defense held the Ramblers to 42% shooting while connecting at 52% themselves but a 4-16 performance from beyond the arc really hurt an offense that was burying shots from in close. Leading scorer Daishon Knight pumped in 21 points on 7-12 from the floor with DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell adding 14 points and seven boards. MiKyle McIntosh and John Jones combined for 19 points and 14 rebounds with seven scoring overall.
The Salukis are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss. Southern Illinois are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. The Redbirds are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Illinois State are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games. If Illinois State is going to finish in the top of the MVC they have to win and anything less the a big win says they are over rated to me...
