The Northern Colorado Bears welcome the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to town for a Big Sky tilt.
Although the Southern Utah Thunderbirds are only 8-17 overall the team has been competitive more often then their record would lead us to believe. The Thunderbirds have done a creditable job scoring but not so much at the defensive end of the floor. Having said that, SUU is playing some of their best basketball of the season with wins in three of four after a 79-77 overtime victory against visiting Idaho as a three point home dog. The Vandals only hit shots at 33% but whopping 27 more looks kept this tight throughout with the Thunderbirds 45% accuracy and eight more free throws barely enough to survive. James McGee paced the attack with 17 points with Cal Hanks netting 16 points. Race Parsons tossed in nine while AJ Hess, Trey Kennedy and Juwan Major each added eight points.

The Northern Colorado Bears have one of the more explosive offenses in the country but generally need every pont because opponents have had little problem lighting up the scoreboard. The Bears defensive issues have really hurt them during s four game slide wher more then 83 points have been allowed in all but one game. Northern Colorado's defense struggled once again in a 91-75 loss at Portland State with the Vikings connecting at 52.5% including 12-24 from beyond the arc. The Bears countered with almost 46% marksmanship but still couldn't keep up. Dominique Lee was one of four double digit scorers with 18 points and eleven rebounds followed by a 14 point effort from Tevin Svihovec. Corey Spence and Tim Huskisson added 13 and 12 points with Huskisson posting seven boards.
The Thunderbirds are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Southern Utah are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big Sky and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Bears are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 8-20-2 ATS in their last 30 vs. Big Sky. Northern Colorado are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a S.U. loss and 10-26-2 ATS in their last 38 games overall. I think Northern Colorado wins at home but I like what I see from the Thunderbirds...
