The Roadrunners are coming off a 69-62 loss at Texas El Paso Saturday where a late Miners surge broke open a tie game. Both teams sank shots in the 44%-45% range with the biggest difference being the Miners seven more free throws. The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have struggled to score and defend the majority of the season which has the team near the bottom of the standings. Even if the Golden Eagles sweep the three remaining games on the schedule it won't improve their position enough to make much of a difference in the conference playoffs. USM has lost seven of eight after a 71-43 defeat at Charlotte on Saturday with the 49ers grabbing a 15 point lead by the intermission and keeping their foot on the gas until the final horn. The better shooting team carried the day with Charlotte firing away at 47% with Southern Miss held to 32% which was a difference of 12 baskets. Chip Armelin led all scorers with 16 points on 7-14 from the floor and was the only player to shoot 50%. Norville Carey and Matt Bingaya added ten and eight points but five others produced just nine points.
The Roadrunners are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games. UTSA are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Golden Eagles are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game while going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. UTSA has played better and won the first match up by 20 and nothing has changed...
