The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks won't catch Murray State for the Ohio Valley West lead but they have the scoring and defense to be a problem once the conference playoffs begin. The Skyhawks saw their chance at a three game winning streak go by the wayside in a 76-68 defeat at SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday. The Cougars were red hot trom the field at 54% including an 8-17 effort on threes while sinking ten more free throws. UTM stayed competitive on 46% accuracy and ten bombs but came up short at the foul line. Alex Anderson led four double digit scorers with 17 an five helpers followed by a 12 point nine rebound effort from Marshun Newell. Deville Smith and Arkeem Joseph tossed in ten points apiece with Twymond Howard chipping in with eight points.

The Tennessee State Tigers haven't had much success in their first season of rebuilding as they are last in the Ohio Valley East with not enough scoring or defense to blame. Christian Mekowulu and Demontez Loman combined for 16 points but the bottom line was Morehead State had more scoring options.
