The Houston Cougars welcome the South Florida Bulls to Hofheinz Pavilion for some Sunday AAC action.
At this point in the season my guess is the South Florida Bulls want to avoid the American Athletic basement which means win the final three games and there won't be anything to worry about in that regard. However that might be easier said then done with the team having just two wins so far. The Bulls are needing to bounce back from a 73-60 defeat at East Carolina where a ten point deficit at the half was their undoing. The Pirates rode 47.5% marksmanship and a hefty 28-12 advantage at the stripe to outscore 43.5% South Florida. Corey Allen Jr. carried the offense with a contest high 28 points and eight rebounds on 8-17 from the floor followed by Troy Holston Jr. and his 13 points. Bo Ziegler chipped in with nine points but the rest of the team scored just ten.

The Houston Cougars can not buy a conference with their lone AAC coming versus Connecticut by two points. The defense has done a reasonable job controlling the scoreboard but the offense has carried their share of the load with the team fortunate to break the 60 point plateau. Both trends continued in a 66-54 loss at Temple as a 14 point underdog on Thursday. The Cougars held a five point lead at the half way point before the Owls dominated the final 20 minutes at both ends of the floor. In the end the boxscore told us Temple shot the ball better at 45%-40% for a difference of five baskets. LeRon Barnes led three double figure scorers with 15 points and a game high eleven rebounds with Devonta Pollard adding 14 points and six pulls. Danrad Knowles tossed in 13 points but the team struggled to produce outside of the top three.
The Bulls are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. South Florida are 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a S.U. loss and 6-14-2 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The Cougars are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while going 5-11 ATS in their last 16 vs. American Athletic Conference. Houston is a sizeable favorite for being last but I suppose if they are going to win big this would be the time...
